The conditions at the Guantánamo Migrant Operations Center are inhumane and unlawful, and we must reject President Trump’s attempts to create a mass, offshore detention camp. 

IRAP’s clients – a Cuban refugee family with young children – were detained at Guantánamo for nearly a year, during which time they were denied access to their attorneys and subjected to acute physical and psychological distress.

Immigrants belong in our communities with their families. Sending tens of thousands of people to an offshore detention center notorious for violating human rights would be a dangerous escalation of the Trump administration’s xenophobic agenda. 

It’s time to close Guantánamo, not expand it.
